Philipp Jacob and Maria Elisabeth Pauli
Philipp Jacob Pauli, son of Philipp Jacob Pauli of Wächtersbach, and Maria Elisabeth Burghard, daughter of Johann Jost Burghard were married in Büdingen on December 9, 1756. In 1766, they decided to accept the offer described in Catherine's Manifesto and migrate to Russia. The couple sailed with other colonists from the north German port of Lübeck and arrived in Oranienbaum, Russia on August 29, 1766 with three children: Johann Georg, baptized December 2, 1757 in Büdingen; Johannes (baptism record not found); and Christian Friedrich, baptized 25 March 25, 1764. A fourth child, Johann Erhard, was born during the journey to the settlement area on the lower Volga River.
Over a year later, the entire family were among the founders who arrived in Norka on August 15, 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 Census as Household No. 16.
A notable descendant of Philipp Jacob and Maria Elisabeth Pauli is Dr. Bruce F. Pauley.
