Anniversaries and Birthdays
According to Pastor Eduard Seib, most Volga Germans did not celebrate events such as birthdays or baptismal days (name-days), or silver or golden wedding anniversaries in their families.
Because of this, church festivals played an even greater role in their lives. Calendars were marked accordingly and appointments were influenced by what time of the church year it was.
Church holidays brought variety to the set patterns of a life full of toil and work on the farm or in local businesses.
