Christian Gottlieb Hegele
Christian Gottlieb Hegele was born in Hirschlanden, Leonberg, Württemberg on June 24, 1804. In 1823, Hegele began theological training at the Mission Institute in Basel, Switzerland (his membership number is 68).
After completing his training in Basel, Reverend Hegele served at the Karras Mission in the North Caucasus region of Russia. There, pastor Hegele met and married Nancy Galloway, the daughter of James Galloway, who served in Karras with the Scottish Mission Society. Nancy Galloway was also a sister to the wife of Pastor Karl Heinrich Thomas.
He later served as pastor in the Volga German colony of Beideck from 1836 to 1850 and in Yagodnaya Polyana from 1850 until his death there on January 3, 1864. As part of his duties serving as pastor of the Beideck parish, Hegele also ministered to the colony of Norka from 1841 to 1845. During this time, Norka did not have a resident pastor.
Two sisters of pastor Hegele married missionaries from the Mission Institute in Basel (Jakob Lang and Johann Theodore Wolters).
