Duffield, Alberta
Several families from Norka settled in the Mewassin District and Burtonsville District near the village of Duffield, Alberta.
Reuben Bauer states that many families first settled in Nebraska, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and the Dakotas before settling in the Duffield area. They were lured to Alberta through letters from friends and family who told them that the government of the Northwest Territories, under the jurisdiction of the federal government in Ottawa, was inviting newcomers to homestead in the area. The letters successfully brought 240 men, women, and children from Norka to the Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, and Duffield area between 1897 and 1934.
