Johannes and Anna Maria Arndt
Johannes Arndt, the son of Johann Heinrich Arndt and Anna Elisabeth Emmerich, was born on November 13, 1734 in Bergheim. He was baptized at the Reformed church the following day.
Johannes married Anna Maria König, daughter of Johann Heinrich König and Anna Margaretha Schlegel on August 23, 1762 in Bergheim. Anna Maria König was baptized on November 13, 1740 in Bergheim.
Johannes and Anna Maria had two children whose baptisms are recorded in the parish register of Bergheim: Johann Heinrich, baptized June 21, 1763 in Bergheim, probably died in Germany before July 1766; and, Maria Elisabeth, baptized August 11, 1765 in Bergheim.
Johannes, Anna Maria, and their daughter Maria Elisabeth sailed from the north German port of Lübeck and arrived at the island fortress of Kronstadt, Russia on July 19, 1766. The Arndt's were traveling with many other colonists that would later settle in Norka. Their voyage was aboard the Russian pink Slon (Elephant) under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov. Accompanying them was a single woman, Elisabeth Arndt. Her relationship to the other Arndt family members is not recorded. There are no further records about Elisabeth Arndt. She may have married or died during transport to the colonies.
After more than a year of travel, the Arndt's arrived in the colony of Norka on August 15, 1767 and were recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 157.
Johannes Arndt, Anna Maria, and their children: Maria Elisabeth, age 13; Catharina, age 8; Catharina Elisabeth, age 4; Johannes, age 3; Anna Maria, age 1, were recorded on the 1775 census of Norka in Household No. 36.
Johannes died sometime before the 1798 census of Norka. Anna Maria died sometime after the 1798 census. In 1798, she is a widow living with her three son: Johannes, age 27 (disabled by epilepsy); Heinrich, age 21; Andreas, age 19; and two daughter: Anna Maria, age 24; Elisabeth, age 14.
