Ernst Wilhelm and Catharina Elisabeth Urbach
Ernst Wilhelm Urbach, the son of Carl and Anna Catharina Urbach, was baptized in Büdingen on November 9, 1732. He married Catharina Elisabetha Ropplebein (spelling?), daughter of Wolff Heinrich Ropplebein, on July 18, 1754. Four children were baptized in Büdingen: Maximilian (November 11, 1754), Catharina Wilhelmina (October 23, 1757), Johann Philipp (March 21, 1762), and Johanna Magdalena (August 25, 1765).
The Urbach's practiced the Reformed faith and Ernst Wilhelm worked as a glazier.
In 1766, Ernst Wilhelm and Catharina Elisabeth decided to accept the offer described in Catherine's Manifesto and migrate to Russia. Along with their two surviving children, Johann Philipp and Catharina Wilhelmina, the Urbach's sailed with other colonists from the north German port of Lübeck aboard the Russian ship “Vologda” and arrived in Oranienbaum, Russia on August 10, 1766.
Over a year later, the Urbach's were among the founders who arrived in Norka on August 15, 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 Census as Household No. 31 (with the name misspelled in the Pleve translation as “Burbach”).
