Headline: Letter from Pastor Kluck in Russia
Frank, the 25th day of February, 1924
My dear Mr. Volz:
This afternoon I returned from Hussenbach where I was greatly impressed by the conference.
There were 1,500 participants from various villages led by 5 Pastors. People hastened there from far and wide; from the Wiesenseite, from the Don Region and from the southern villages around Kamyschin. The large church was unable to seat them all and the schoolhouse hall was filled to overflowing. The 2 Evangelists, Fink and Ehlers were also present. Believers came from 36 villages: for example from Frank 176; Norka 75; Huck 3; Neu-Doenhof 110; Franker Kutter 29; Walter and Kolb 45 each; Walter Khutor 50; Dietel 65; Balzer 15. Many people traveled over 200 kilometers by horse. One family in Hussenbach gave shelter to 40 people. We Pastors were well taken care of by Schoolmaster Joh. Gideon. Everyone praised the Hussenbachers for their hospitality. The Pastors who came were: F. Wacker, P. Eichhorn, P. Stab, P. Mollmann, Jr., P. Kluck. We took turns preaching at the church and at the prayer house.
On Saturday evening, Feb. 24th, preaching began in earnest. I began with Math. 21, 28-33. On Sunday Pastor Wacker preached in the church about Psalm 84 and I in the prayer house about 2nd Thessalonians 3, 16.
In the afternoon the Evangelists covered Zephaniah 3, 5-8 and Luke 12, 35-40. In the evening we spoke of the greatness and marvelousness of God.
This morning it was especially soulful with love flowing everywhere. There were many tears and prayers. Joh. 17, 21.
Late yesterday evening there was a meeting between the Pastors and church elders. Important questions were discussed in the spirit of mutual love. Everyone was pleased and headed home with the sense that the Lord had moved among us.
Next Sunday there is a meeting of brethren in Neu-Doenhof and on March 9th in Frank. At the end of May a church congress will be held in Norka and delegates selected for the Moscow General Synod of the Lutheran Church. The last one was held from 14 to 19 June. May God help us move forward!
On the 23rd of February, I buried the widower Jacob Schauermann in Frank. He died at the age of 62 years, 2 months and 10 days. He has 2 sons and 2 daughters in America. Funeral text: Revelations 3, 20.
Obey the Lord! Yours,
A. Kluck
