Johann Georg and Anna Elisabetha Ruppel
Johann Georg Ruppel, son of Heinrich Ruppel and his wife Anna Catharina, was born November 12, 1744, and baptized November 15, 1744 in Neuenhasslau. Anna Elisabetha Scheibel, daughter of Gottfried Scheibel and his wife Anna Elisabetha, was born February 2, 1739 and baptized February 8, 1739, in Niedermittlau which is only a short distance from Neuenhasslau. Johann Georg and Anna Elisabetha married April 4, 1766 in Büdingen, a recruitment center and gathering place for Russian colonists.
In 1766, the Ruppel's decided to accept the offer described in Catherine's Manifesto and migrate to Russia. The couple sailed with other colonists from the north German port of Lübeck aboard the Russian pink Vologda under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Bartenyev and arrived in Oranienbaum, Russia on July 28, 1766. Also on this ship were Anna Elisabeth's sisters, Catharina, and Catharina Elisabeth, the wife of Johann Peter Göbel.
Over a year later, Johann Georg and Anna Elisabeth were among the founders who arrived in Norka on August 15, 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 Census at Household No. 87.
