Johann Heinrich and Anna Gertruda Alt
Johann Heinrich Alt, son of Leonhard Alt and Anna Barbara Kohlhepp, was born on September 27, 1734 in Oberzell, Schwarzenfels. He married Anna Gertruda Vogel, the daughter of Johannes Vogel and Gertrudis Dorn. She was born in Weichersbach, Schwarzenfels on April 29, 1741. The couple was married in the city of Büdingen. Büdingen was one of the primary places of recruitment for people wishing to become colonists in Russia.
In 1766, the Alt's decided to accept the offer described in Catherine's Manifesto and migrate to Russia. The couple sailed with other colonists from the north German port of Lübeck aboard the Russian galliot Strelna under the command of Lieutenant Sornev and arrived in Oranienbaum, Russia on August 9, 1766.
Over a year later, Johann Heinrich, Anna Gertruda, and their daughter Magdalena (born enroute to the lower Volga) were among the founders who arrived in Norka on August 15, 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 Census at Household No. 125.
