Johannes and Anna Margaretha Spady
Johannes (age 55) and Anna Margaretha (age 40), and their children, Johann Konrad (age 13), Johannes (age 11) and Anna Maria (age 3), were among the founders who arrived in Norka on August 15, 1767. They are recorded there in the 1767 census as Household No. 43. Johannes was listed as a guild craftsman. Although the 1767 census translation by Dr. Igor Pleve indicates that the Spady's were Catholics that originated in Österreich (Austria), the literal translation of the recorded place of origin is Cesaria. This was a name used to describe both Austria and the Holy Roman Empire. At the time, the Holy Roman Empire was ruled by a king based in Vienna, Austria. The empire comprised most of modern day Austria and Germany.
The Spady family has not been found in the List of Colonists arriving in Russia in 1766 or any of the transport lists which have been found.
The Spady descendants chart prepared by Dr. Pleve lists the origin of the family as Afterroth town, Austria. However, the locality of Afterroth town is not listed in the 1767 census. The origin of the mysterious name of Afterroth is found in the 1834-45 Norka Family Register in the entry for family 76, Nicolaus Wacker and Anna Maria Spady. Her birthdate is listed as 29 Nov 1764 and her birthplace is listed as Asterroth or Osterroth. The German spelling looks a lot like Afterroth. This is likely a phoenetic spelling of Österreich (Austria).
