Johannes (John) Klaus was born on January 2, 1880 in Norka, Russia, the son Nicholas Klaus (b. 1849) and Katharina Margaretha Krieger (b. 1850).
John married Katharina Schlidt on January 27, 1898 in Norka. Katharina was born on March 4, 1878, the daughter of Johannes Schlidt (b. 1850) and Elisabeth Sphan (b. 1849).
A son, Heinrich (Henry) was born in Norka on September 25, 1898.

The Klaus family immigrated to the United States in 1899 and first settled in Lincoln, Nebraska where a son Nicholas was born in 1900. In 1903, they relocated to Weld County, Colorado. At least four more children were born here including Annie, Jacob, John and Mary. John and Katharina were charter members of the Evangelical Congregational Church in Windsor.
John died in May 1912. Katharina lived for many more years and died in Windsor in 1963.
