Mörs
Philipp Ludwig Mörs was baptized February 27, 1730 in the Büdingen Reformed church, the son of Johann Jacob Mörs and Albertina Ernestina Forrel. At the time Büdingen was part of the county of Isenburg.
Philipp Ludwig married Johanna Maria Geÿer, the daughter of Johann Georg Geÿer (Geier) and Anna Catharina Neumetzer, on January 10, 1760 in Büdingen. Johanna Maria was baptized on February 3, 1737 in Büdingen. The had two children: Johannes, baptized February 7, 1762 in Büdingen; Michael Thomas, baptized June 13, 1764 in Büdingen.
Philipp Ludwig's wife, Johanna Maria, died sometime before the family arrived in Oranienbaum, Russia. Philipp Ludwig is listed as a widower on their arrival record (Kuhlberg List). He also stated that he was a potter and member of the Reformed church in Büdingen. The Mörs family sailed from Lübeck, Germany aboard the Catharina Eleonora, under the command of Peter Rehder. The ship arrived at Kronstadt on August 20, 1766.
Philipp Ludwig and his two sons arrived in the colony of Norka on September 2, 1767. There they were listed in the 1767 census of Norka as Household No. 208. Philipp Ludwig is listed as a widower from Isenburg. Living in the same household is an orphan girl, Elisabeth Geier, the daughter of Johannes Geier who died on the journey to the settlement area. Johannes may be related to Philipp Ludwig's wife, Johanna Maria Geÿer (Geier). The Geÿer's were also from Büdingen, traveled on the same ship and were listed close to the Mörs and Wacker households in the Transport List.
Philipp Ludwig’s sister, Maria Louisa Mörs, who was baptized October 19, 1727 in Büdingen. She married Johannes Wacker on February 6, 1755 in the nearby village of Wolf. Maria Louisa and Johannes Wacker were also first settlers in Norka, recorded in the 1767 census as Household No. 195.
Philipp Ludwig and his two sons are listed in the 1775 census of Norka as Household No. 49. Next door is the household of his widowed brother-in-law, Johannes Wacker (No. 48).
By 1798, Philipp Ludwig had moved to the colony of Messer. He married Dorothea Catharina Maÿ (Mai), the widow of Heinrich Jacob Traumüller from Lorbach. They are living in Household No. 70.
Philipp Ludwig died on October 2, 1805 in Messer.
Philipp Ludwig's son, Michael Thomas, married Anna Maria Manweiler. They are listed as Household No. 41 in the 1798 census of Messer.
Philipp Ludwig's son Johannes married and had at least one daughter. Johannes died before 1834.
