Sorberger
Jacob Sorberger was born about 1725. He worked as a school teacher and was a member of the Reformed church.
Jacob married Anna Katharina Armbrüster on 22 June 1752 in Rohrbach. The marriage record states that she is from Erbstadt. Jacob's mother is Ester Cornelia Sorberger (maiden name unknown) from Vonhausen.
Jacob and Anna Katharina accepted the offer described in Catherine's Manifesto and sailed with other colonists from the north German port of Lübeck aboard a Russian ship under the command of Lieutenant Ilyin. They arrived in Oranienbaum, Russia aboard the ship "Kronwerk" on 19 July 1766 with six children: Johannes, age 7 (baptized 18 April 1760); Abraham Georg, age 5 (baptized 17 Jan 1762); Johann Heinrich, age 3 months; Henrietta Cornelia Catharina Louisa, age 13 (baptized 3 March 1755); Catharina Maria, age 11 (baptized 5 March 1758); and, Johanna Wilhelmina, age 3 (baptized 27 Dec 1763).
Jacob and all three boys appear to have died enroute to the settlement area on the lower Volga River.
Anna Katharina, suddenly a widow with three girls, married again to Eberhard Anspach (listed in the 1775 census as Eckhart Eschbach) prior to their arrival in Norka on September 2, 1767. It is likely that Eberhard, age 51, was also a widower. They are listed in the 1767 Census as Household 207.
Anna Katharina's three girls were also among the founders who arrived in Norka on September 2, 1767 and are recorded in Household No. 207a.
