Written by Rick Wacker
Philip Hohnstein was born in Norka in 1877. His father was Henry Hohnstein who married Elizabeth Schreiber. Philip's wife was Louise Burbach. Her father was John Conrad Burbach from Neu-Norka and her mother was Elizabeth Dillman. Philip came to the United States in 1911, Louise followed in 1912 with my Grandfather Henry and his two brothers; George and Alexander. Grandpa said that he was supposed to sail on the Titanic, but one of his brothers was sick and they wouldn't let them go. As a result, they went a week later (on April 17) aboard the steamship Haverford.
The Titanic set sail from Southampton, England on April 10, 1912. Three hours later she struck an iceberg and plunged to the bottom of the sea, taking more than 1,500 people with her.
