Eusel Families
The Johannes and Georg Eÿsel (also Eisel or Eusel) families settled in the colony of Norka in August 1767. The two Eusel men are half-brothers, sharing the same father, Johann Heinrich Eusel. Their wives are sisters.
Johannes Eusel was born on 25 April 1728 in Herfa, in the district of Friedewald, a few miles south of Ronshausen. His mother was Anna Martha (surname unknown). He married Anna Christina Becker on 4 April 1762 in Ronshausen. Anna Christina is the daughter of the colonist Anton Becker (Bäcker) from Ronshausen. Two children were born in Ronshausen: Joachim (baptized 23 August 1762) and Anna Elisabeth (baptized 4 April 1765). This family has not been found in the Kulberg ship arrival lists but they are recorded in the 1767 census of Norka as household 154. Joachim had died by this time.
Johann Georg Eusel was born in Herfa in November 1740, the son of Johann Heinrich and Anna Barbara Eusel. He married Anna Catharina Becker on 8 July 1765 in Ronshausen. Anna Catharina is also a daughter of Anton Becker. Johann Georg and Anna Christina had two children prior to their marriage: Johann Heinrich (baptized 17 September 1762) and Anna Catharina Elisabeth (baptized 15 February 1764). Johann Georg, Anna Catharina, and Anna Catharina Elisabeth arrived in Russia on 19 July 1766. Their young son, Johann Heinrich, died before this date. They are listed as public colonists aboard the ship "Fortitudo" commanded by John Scott. Also aboard this ship is Anna Catharina's father, Anton Becker, and her brother Georg Becker and his family. Johann Georg, Anna Catharina and their daughter arrived in Norka on 15 August 1767 and are recorded in the 1767 as household 149.
Anton Becker is listed as the head of household 160 in the 1767 census of Norka. His son Georg and his family are listed in household 159.
